FinePass integration
FinePass for rental operators: parking notices, handled
A parking breach notice on one of your vehicles is addressed to you, the registered owner, weeks after the hirer has gone. FinePass matches it to the booking in Glovebox, emails the driver who was actually behind the wheel, chases it, and pays you a handling fee when they pay. You never hold a fine that is not yours.
Included in every plan. Off until you turn it on, and connected only once your rental agreement carries the disclosure clause.
You were on hire for this vehicle when a parking breach was recorded. The notice, the photo, and a payment link are below.
What the driver receives, minutes after the notice reaches FinePass. You are not in the loop.
Why it matters
The notice comes to you. The driver is long gone.
A parking company writes to the registered owner, which is you. By the time the letter arrives the hire is over, the customer is home, and someone in your office has to find the booking, work out who had the car that afternoon, decide whether to chase them, and either write the fine off or pay it and hope to recover it later. Multiply that by every car park, every summer.
FinePass exists because the answer to "who had the car?" is already in Glovebox. It asks Glovebox that one question, per notice, and takes it from there.
Setup
Turn it on, set your fee, connect your payout account
FinePass is a module like any other. Turn it on from your Modules page and a short setup walks you through it: what it does, the handling fee you want on each notice, the account your fees are paid into, and the connection itself. No keys to copy, nothing to configure on the FinePass side.
One step is on us. A hirer has to have been told that a parking notice may reach them through FinePass, so we confirm your rental agreement says so before the connection goes live. If yours does not yet, we will send you the wording.
Step 2 of the setup. Change the fee any time from Revenue, FinePass.
The match
One question per notice: who had this vehicle at that moment?
When a parking company forwards a notice to FinePass, FinePass asks Glovebox for the booking on that plate at that date and time. Glovebox answers with one booking or none. Your customer list is never copied anywhere; every lookup is recorded against your workspace so you can see exactly what was asked and what was disclosed.
Found a booking: the driver is emailed within minutes with the notice, the photo, and a link to pay by card. No booking at that moment: nothing is sent, and the notice waits under Review in Glovebox for you to match by hand or leave alone.
Every notice FinePass asked about, and what happened next.
The chase, and the money
Reminders on a schedule, and your fee paid to you
FinePass sends the notice, a reminder a week later, and a final notice a week after that. Each email says which step it is. If the driver still does not pay, the parking company gets the driver's details to pursue directly, as they are entitled to, and you are out of it.
When the driver pays, the parking company gets its fine and you get your handling fee, transferred to your payout account that day and paid to your bank each Monday. FinePass charges the driver its own fee and card processing on top. It is never billed to you, never deducted from your fee, and never charged at all if the driver does not pay.
The month at a glance, in Glovebox, with every payout listed.
Getting notices to FinePass
Tell your parking companies once, and the letters stop
The fastest way to get FinePass working for you is to let the parking companies you deal with know, so their notices go straight to FinePass instead of your desk. After you connect, Glovebox lists them with a ready-written email for each, sent from your own mail program, with FinePass copied in so you can see it went and whether they replied.
One button per company. The email is yours; nothing is sent on your behalf.
Straight about what it is
A relay, with your customer's privacy built in
FinePass is a separate service, run by the same team as Glovebox, and it is the party that contacts the driver, not you. It can only do that because your rental agreement told the hirer it might, which is why Glovebox checks the clause is there before connecting you. We would rather you wait a day for that than send a notice on shaky ground.
FinePass never receives your customer list, only the answer to a single lookup, and every lookup is recorded in Glovebox for you to see. The parking company never learns who the driver was unless the notice goes unpaid through the whole reminder cycle, at which point they are entitled to that anyway. We make no claims about how much you will recover; every notice is different, and we would rather you see your own numbers in Glovebox than read ours.
Questions
FinePass, answered
What if the vehicle was not on hire when the notice was issued?
FinePass only relays a notice when Glovebox finds a booking on that vehicle covering that exact moment. If there is none, nothing is sent to anyone: the notice shows in Revenue, FinePass under Review, where you can match it to a booking by hand (a late return, a swap) or leave it. If it truly was not on hire, you are the registered owner and it is yours, exactly as today.
Does the parking company see my customers?
No. FinePass looks up one booking per notice and emails the driver itself. The parking company only learns who was driving if the notice is still unpaid after the final reminder, at which point the driver is handed over to them to pursue directly, as the law already allows. Your customer list never leaves Glovebox.
Which parking companies does it work with?
Any that will forward a notice to notices@finepass.co.nz instead of posting it to you. After you connect, Glovebox gives you a ready-written email for the parking companies you deal with, sent from your own mail client, so you can tell them in a minute.
What does it cost me?
Nothing. You set a handling fee (default $40.00 a notice) and receive it when the driver pays. FinePass adds its own fee and card processing to what the driver pays; neither is ever taken from your fee or the fine.
What if the driver disputes it?
They can say so from the notice itself. Reminders stop, FinePass looks at it, and you see the outcome in Glovebox. You are not the one arguing with them.
Why does my rental agreement need a clause?
A hirer has to have been told that a parking notice on their hire may be relayed to them through FinePass. Glovebox checks that your rental agreement says so before FinePass can be connected, and will not switch it on until it does. If you need wording, ask us.
Can I turn it off?
Yes, any time, from Revenue, FinePass. Notices already relayed run their course; nothing new is matched after that.
FinePass has its own site for parking companies and drivers: finepass.co.nz.
