Common questions

What operators ask before they send one

Is this campervan hire agreement generator free?
Yes. There is no account, no paywall and no watermark. You answer a short set of questions, and the generator produces a branded PDF you can send to a customer the same day. You can come back and regenerate it whenever your terms change.
Does it cover self-containment and freedom camping?
Yes. The agreement puts the obligation on the hirer to keep the vehicle's self-containment certification intact, to empty waste only at dump stations, and to camp only where it is permitted. Freedom camping rules are set locally and change, so the clause makes the hirer responsible for checking the rules where they stop rather than restating them.
What about the Cook Strait ferry?
Inter-island ferry travel is permitted by default and the agreement covers the conditions that come with it, including shutting off on-board gas for the crossing. If your own insurance excludes ferry travel, that is one of the first clauses to change.
How are kilometre allowances handled?
You set an included daily or total allowance and a per-kilometre rate beyond it. The agreement records the odometer at pickup and return, which is what makes an excess-kilometre charge stick if it is ever questioned.
Can I use my own wording instead?
Every clause the generator produces is a starting point you edit, not a fixed template. Change the wording, add clauses of your own, or delete the ones that do not apply to how you hire. What comes out is your document, carrying your business name and your conditions.
Is this legal advice?
No. This tool produces a practical starting point built from how New Zealand hire operators actually run, not advice about your obligations. Before you rely on it, have it reviewed by a lawyer who knows your business, particularly the liability, insurance and bond clauses.
