What is the difference between the bond and the insurance excess?

The bond is money you hold against the hire, usually a card authorisation, and it comes back if the vehicle returns as it left. The excess is the amount the customer is liable for if there is damage. Keeping them as separate figures avoids the most common argument at return, which is a customer assuming the bond was the cap on what they could owe.

Does it cover additional and young drivers?

Yes. The agreement names who is permitted to drive and makes anyone not named a breach, which is what usually decides an insurance outcome. You can set a young-driver surcharge and a minimum age, and record each additional driver's licence details against the hire.

What does it say about gravel and unsealed roads?

By default, formed gravel public roads are permitted, while beaches, riverbeds and unformed roads are prohibited. That is the stance most New Zealand car fleets take, and stating it explicitly is what makes it enforceable when a customer takes a car somewhere it should not have gone.

Can I use my own wording instead?

Every clause the generator produces is a starting point you edit, not a fixed template. Change the wording, add clauses of your own, or delete the ones that do not apply to how you hire. What comes out is your document, carrying your business name and your conditions.
